Daniel Bachman describes his musical style as 'psychedelic appalachia'. This LP was mainly home-recorded (at times alone, at times with assistance from various friends) and is suitably sparse and atmospheric. Based in Virginia, this 22-year-old guitarist has been touring and recording since he was 17. Known for his limited releases, there are only 250 copies of this so don't hang about. It comes in a lovely screened book tape bound sleeve.

Here we have an interesting release on the Lancashire And Somerset label, home to the latest record by Notts psychedelic monsters Kokumaza amongst others.

This self-titled album by Daniel Bachman is completely home recorded, mostly by himself. What you get here is some superb acoustic guitar playing in the form of a mish mash of country, folk, blues and psychedelia, all of which combines to a near acid-drenched road trip movie soundtrack, like a lo-fi Ry Cooder or Jim O'Rourke without the fancy studio trickery.

On 'Old Country Rock Etc.' he stops and shouts "f**k" at a bum note he makes which then leads into a monotone Godspeed-esque ghost tune, haunting to the the point of sheer terror. This is really original stuff and not the kind of music I would normally favour but Daniel Bachman has really tickled my headphones on this grey Tuesday afternoon.
