Not content with having their own 7" out on In The Red this week, Fuzz bassist Chad Ubovich's Meatbodies also appear on this split with Wand. For a moment I thought they might both be covering songs by legendary DC hardcore thrashers Void, but no, they're both playing their own songs with the word 'Void' in the title.

On side 1, Meatbodies are playing 'Feed the Void', a krautishly repetitive bit of distorto-psych that explodes into a big catchy chorus with fiery enthusiasm and lots and lots of fuzz. The stunted repetitive tension of the verse and the grotesquely overblown riffing of the chorus play off each other really nicely. Tone-wise it's still properly gnarly but this kraut-psych influence makes it sound less almost-identical to his other band than their other single this week.

Flip it and Wand are playing 'Take Me Back to the Void', which mixes heavy stoner riffing with blurry reverbed vocals that are almost dreampoppy. It reminds me a little bit of Party of Helicopters but with a gravellier bottom end giving them a Torche-like chunkiness. It's always interesting when people mix metal riffing with pop like this though. Ace Hawkwind freakout at the end too, squiggly laser sounds and all. Excellent split, I don't know which song I like best because they're both great.
