Ty Segall-endorsed up and comers Wand are best mates with Meatbodies, with Wand frontman Cory Hanson a regular collaborator. This sludgy, heavy offering comes with a nice dollop of laid-back Californian hair fuzz. Their debut album is due out soon, meanwhile this 7" two-track vinyl is very limited stock so don't hang around.

9/10 Staff review, 15 August 2014

I've got a couple of sevens on my pile from In The Red today, and they both feature Meatbodies, the "other band" of Fuzz dude Chad Ubovich. The sound here isn't a million miles away from his other band - essentialy '70s pop with lots of blown-out-sounding distortion. On side A 'Rotten' is full of big stop-start riffs, overblown guitar twiddling and vocals that are very much on the Fuzz/Ty Segall spectrum. One thing I like about it is that it sounds super dirty throughout but right towards the end they add even more distortion for a few bars and it's just pure filth. I do like a bit of filth.

Title track 'Mud Gals' comes on side B, opening with screeching lazer-cannon feedback before hitting a mid-paced stoner fuzz riff that wouldn't sound out of place on an Uncle Acid or Zig Zags record. Again it's hard not to compare it to his other band. Not that this is a problem, in fact it's Fuzzing great. If you enjoyed their album you're sure to like both cuts here.
