A little bit of synth, a lot of fuzzy guitars, 'Monsters' shows off a high-voltage Meat Puppets who couldn't undo what they'd done on their psych-rock record 'Mirage': it's raucous, but it's experimental too. Originally released in 1989, it's getting a reissue courtesy of Wienerworld, with three bonus tracks to boot. 'Monsters' is a good place to measure the influence the Meat Puppets had on the loudest of indie rock and the moodiest of grunge, from Soundgarden to Sebadoh.
