Twinned with 'Heart', his other, warmer slice of ambient house, Scrase has released 'Another', an EP that takes a more sinister turn, abandoning the kindly, natural atmospheres for aggressive acoustic percussion and eerie layers of sound that wouldn't be out of place on an Amon Tobin record. 'Another' sees Scrase try to make his minimal, sparse basslines terrifying; "Movon", in particular, is indicative of the EP's intentions, containing fleeting and ominous percussion with loud alarming synths.

This EP is twinned with another 12", 'Heart', also released this week. That one focuses on Scrase's warm, ambient house side while 'Another' delves into more sinister percussive techno-ish territory, with three numbered percussion tracks, a couple of dark electronic loopscapes 'Another' and 'Movon', and Lakker remix of the title track.
While the percussion tracks are intricately constructed and 'Perc 12' in particular has a lot going on, they largely act as atmospheric interludes to contextualise the longer pieces. Said title track is certainly a highlight, with a stumbling beat that's joined by a heavy techno bass pulse and weird tumbling textural loops that echo and scrape ominously. Lakker's remix takes it into a scratchy, submerged throb'n'flutter that drifts into smooth synth drones, sewer-reverb ambience and subtly pulsating layers of beats and insect-leg scuttles. 'Movon' is pretty nuts too, all wildly tumbling modular synths and cold crisp computer beats, it's got a nice mix of harsh acid-toned panic and icy control. Not a bad 12".
