Boy Names are a trio based in Brixton who make upbeat, good vibes indie pop informed by the 80s, RnB and soul, with a little bit of twee on top for good measure: "Instant Ambition" is all about the hooks and silly vocals. This single is being released in the form of a cassette tape, and comes with a download code.

7/10 Mike Staff review, 13 August 2014

Hey, I went to school with the guy who recorded this. Small world. Hi Nick! Anyway, what's happening on this tape is some somewhat syrupy synthpop from Brixton-based trio Boy Names, who mix '80s-ish soulpop vocals with a simple and upbeat backing of synth, guitar and drum machine that brings to mind the likes of Passion Pit or Diamond Rings.

Of the two songs here I'm enjoying the second one 'Slow' the most, with some cool little beatboxing samples and steadily bubbling modular synth blooping accompanying a sultry crooning female vocal (there's a man singing on the mind-scouringly hooky opener, which is a little twee for my tastes but undeniably catchy...a bit too catchy if you ask me). A promising cassingle.
