Swell Maps' Nikki Sudden began releasing solo output after his band broke up in the 1980s, and 'Fred Beethoven' is a newly unearthed record of material through his career. It contains two covers of Chuck Berry's rockabilly standard, "Johnny B. Goode", as well as new versions of song from Sudden's debut solo record, 'Forest Fire'. 'Fred Beethoven' shows off Sudden's affection for the traditions of rock music and early punk, from T. Rex to the New York Dolls.
