Canadian deep house duo Tom Howie and Vallance, otherwise known as Bob Moses, have been increasingly prominent figures on the underground electronica scene since 2012. Recently named as one of itunes 'one to watch' for 2014, this 2-track EP is a good taster of what's to come. 'I aint' gonna be the first to cry' is a cover of a 1974 Bobby Bland song, more subdued than the original, but no less soulful. 'First to Cry' is available to buy as a limited edition 12" in a lovely screen-printed sleeve.

When will Domino sign someone good I hear you cry! Don't worry - there’s time yet. Let's see what Bob Moses are all about.

Well as you might expect from how things work these days its a band not a person, they are Canadian and they live in Brooklyn, New York of all places. Just imagine! I’m thinking they have beards too but at the time of writing have no proof. Opener ‘I Ain’t Going To Be The Lonely One’ is moving along quite nicely in a kind of Mount Kimbie style until the rather Lighthouse Family vocals kick in. Its minimal electro-soul basically, slick music for your craft beer supping.

The B side starts nice and evocatively with some nice bassy sounds and clicky beat parts but the vocals quickly ‘normalise’ everything. I have constant issues with vocals on electronic music but I’m not going to start that whole debate up again. Lets just say its a little slick for my tastes and let me be the first to say this is the new Junior Boys and I can claim my £5.
