- Fiona Coyne / Fall Harder by Saint Pepsi
Gotta admit the band name Saint Pepsi made me laugh, especially in tandem with the cheesy '80s imagery on the front of this single. Thankfully the music doesn't disappoint, it's aspirational '80s white-boy pop with a cheeky sense of humour and hooks that'd make Abu Hamza blush.
It's pure Hall & Oates-lite silliness, but undeniably well done. On the A side is 'Fiona Coyne', a bright number with soft synths, simple funky guitar and bass and punchy Huey Lewis & the News brass. It's dangerously catchy. On the other side of the 'Coyne' is 'Fall Harder' which initially seems a bit more dreamy and modern-sounding with some glitchy little synth touches, but once the beat comes in it's clear we're in similar territory. It's like Stock, Aitken and Waterman never went away. It's up to you whether you think that's a good thing.
