Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers, the band he rose to become the natural leader of, released 'Caravan' in 1963, offering up their first record for the legendary Riverside jazz label. The record is considered to be an example of what would become referred to by journalists as hard bop, a bluesy offshoot of jazz. On record, Blakey is joined by jazz icons such as saxophonist Wayne Shorter and Mr. Freddie Hubbard. This reissue of 'Caravan' comes from Concord.
