Joyce Manor emerged from the same scene as Title Fight, FIDLAR, Hopalong, Touche Amore. Their first, self-titled, album in 2011 exploded out of nowhere; across two albums, they discovered what Joyce Manor really sounded like - the speed and sense of melody of fellow South Bay band the Descendents, the artfully bittersweet lyricism of Jawbreaker and the undeniable heart-on-sleeve honesty of the first two Weezer albums.

7/10 Effie the cat 18th April 2017

As someone born in 1980 I'm always on the lookout for something that's a bit Nirvana/Weezer/Nada Surf and this is. Packed with short songs that rock, this comes in at under 20 mins in total. Annoyingly the vinyl is a 45. It's catchy and only has one poor song with a couple of instant hits. On the whole it's good rather than great and if you love this sort of thing I'd recommend Cloud Nothing's over this. Still, the potential for a great record is there.

The sort of thing you buy, listen to everyday for a month or two, then never play again.
