- Theo Brown and the Folklore of Dartmoor by Ian Humberstone / David Chatton Barker
With packaging that makes you fear for the mental health of the perpretators, this is a top-of-the-range executive item. Its the the Jaguar with the walnut dash, heated back rests and double exhaust system.
It must have cost an absolute arm and leg to make. There's 7 (seven) 7” records, a fold out map, a DVD, postcards, a real pressed flower and an egg from the last remaining Dodos on Dartmoor, I made the last one up of course but I wouldn’t put it past them. Gonna have a quick listen to the music to see if its any good. I’ve played a track that has a reggae-ish vibe, lots of clanging noises over a drum machine, another track seems to consist of fizzing found sounds. Hang on, I’ve found another record, this one has a waterfall, eerie ghost like singing and a piercing squeak, overleaf there's birdsong, doomy piano and a ghostly whistle.
Ok so its firmly in the disconcerting ambient territory, the soundtrack to monks chanting at dusk whilst trying to negotiate a particularly squeaky gate. However, it might not just be the music that you are buying this for. The packaging is spectacular.
