Absolutely lauded is this album. “One of the best albums ever” someone has proclaimed. Pitchfork and Resident Advisor both love it. The usual caveat applies, possibly you could say its one of the best albums in its field but it would be very hard to convince the general public at large of its merits...there again what do they know?

Its a collaboration between Donato Dozzy and Neel, initially released in 2012 and now available on vinyl with extra tracks. Its pulsating hypnotic techno. On the opening track ‘In Giova’ it slowly lulls you in then starts to unfurl ever so subtly into a kind of half melody. There are lots of crackling ethnicy clicks which appear on ‘Meyku’ further upping the balearic style tension of the track. Almost like the hoots of an owl or some kind of jungle beast. There’s a new-agey relax-tape feel to it all which I have to admit I’m not feeling at all. I’m enjoying ‘Twins in Virgo’ though, a tranquil journey along the back roads of ambient techno. Perfectly weighted, the layered synth and sparse bass notes are brought in at just the right time. The whole album has a lovely relaxing atmosphere, ‘Circle & St’ is so soft and billowy, a downwardly descending bass sequence opens the track up to a rather beautiful finale with skittering synths and spacious cloud like puffs of synth.

Although some of the new agey blips are not to my taste the way the tracks progress is quite stunning, ‘Circle & St’ is one of the most evocative slices of ambient techno I’ve heard in some time. Gorgeous stuff. Pressed onto three slabs of vinyl the sound quality is as perfect as you might expect.
