Love Central Processing Unit. They can do no wrong. And look at ‘em now, shredding Soundcloud in search of new artists to promote and support, that’s democracy in action right there. Applause please.

Carbo Flex (great name btw) a.k.a Greame Evans takes me right back with this amazing three track 12” debut for CPU. Epic opener ‘Amme Dot’ sets the scene with an ambient beat cruncher in the vein of early Aphex Twin, Jega and Autechre (before their shit got beyond baffling) and it’s a real treasure. The synth is genuinely peaceful and the beat processing is mind boggling. Total algorithm abuse yet tastefully mixed to not overwhelm the tranquility. Stinks of the mid-90’s - bigtime!

Flip it and ‘Flirty Fox’ and ‘Trifolium’ confirms Carbo Flex’s 90’s IDM obsession with a couple of tunes pulled straight from the Boards Of Canada songbook. Again, a combo of blissful low end and pads coupled with a beat that sound like someone using an old hole punched paper printer or knocking out a business letter on an analogue typewriter. If you’re a sucker (like myself) for the Rephlex/Warp era this is definitely worth seeking out. A timely reminder of a truly golden era. Beautiful.
