Fuzz Club have another of their upstart-meets-legend split singles out this week, this time pairing psych-rockers The Vacant Lots with synth-punk legend Alan Vega of Suicide notoriety. On the Vacant Lots side is 'Mad Mary Jones' (Alternative Mix), a gothily churning psych-rock driven along by shuddering layers of synths and droning guitar distortion along with a nimble repeato-riff in the chorus and a proggy spoken-word middle eight. There's something a bit 'Vanishing Point'-era Primal Scream about it, that mixture of quite poppy hooks and driving repetition.

Over on the other side Vega's doing his stuff with 'Nike Soldier', recorded in '96 and remixed this year. It probably won't come as a surprise that it sounds not dissimilar to late-era Suicide, all throbbing, droning synths and Vega's trademark strained growls and whoops building up a grotesque oil slick of tension over the grinding robotic throb of warped synth pulses, grinding-metal drones and minimal electronic beats. Cool single!
