Craig Tattersall (The Boats, Remote Viewer, Hood, etc) this week slips back into one of his many aliases, The Humble Bee, for a second album of awkwardly immersive ambience. As Mr Bee he deftly combines field recorded tape loops, electronics and analogue synth and Girogio Sancristoforo's Berna studio software which simulates a late '50s studio.   The overall effect is one of wistful, slow-drifting melodicism and subtle textural details, calming drones, flickering electronics and gentle field recorded atmospheric clutter, which slowly morphs and unfolds as the two side-long tracks progress, sometimes serene and comforting, sometimes new agey and cosmic, other times darkly industrial and foreboding, all grainy twitches and grating hums giving it a gritty neon dystopian feel.   I'm enjoying the fact that while it's primarily an exercise in texture, each track does move through a series of subtle melodic themes which hold it tentatively together as a piece of music and not merely an exercise in sound art atmospherics. It's delicate and subtle stuff, carefully assembled and wonderfully immersive.
