Behold the debut EP of the hardcore punk band created to spread the gospel of professional wrestling champion UltraMantis Black.

Having spent over a decade dominating the Chikara wrestling scene, UltraMantis teamed up with members of the beloved punk band Pissed Jeans to form a blistering political hardcore band that is equal parts The Locust, Deadguy and Melt Banana.  Imagine the best parts of 90s straight-edge hardcore filtered through the bodyslamming genius of Vince McMahon and you have UltraMantis Black!  Recommended if you like: Pissed Jeans, (early) Dillinger Escape Plan, Lightning Bolt, Daughters, Agoraphobic Nosebleed, Genghis Tron, Spazz.

8/10 Mike Staff review, 11 July 2014
Meetings between music and professional wrestling haven't historically yielded credible results, hitting a nadir a couple of decades ago with the Wrestlemania song (link here: ) but here's Chikara wrestler Ultramantis Black to try and right those wrongs with a one-sided mini-album of nasty grinding hardcore business which features members of Pissed Jeans.   Mr Black is a pretty good frontman, he's got a good yell on him and is tight and aggressive throughout the twists and turns of the nine tracks collected here, which mix the anger and aggression of Retox with a brand of genre-jumping fast music that reminds me of the Afternoon Gentlemen's weird blend of grindcore, powerviolence and doom into a caustic, gnarled kind of mutant metalcore. Not bad at all, actually.
