Sheffield modernist pop five piece Blessa release their debut EP 'Love Is An Evol Word' on 23rd June through their own label Carmel Records in conjunction with Generator.

The band have made the EP's lead track 'Unfurl' available to stream online now.

As with their lauded debut single 'Between Times', the new EP was recorded by MJ (Hookworms, Menace Beach) at Suburban Homes Studios, Leeds. Blessa, in its current and definitive guise, formed through a long standing friendship between Olivia (vocals) and Alex (guitar).

Lyrically drawing references from the New York School poets such as Frank O’Hara and John Ashbery, and taking musical inspiration from the binaries of darkness/light and open/closed spaces, they set on forging a new Sheffield sound with the now completed line up of Andy (drums), Rob (guitar) and Jake (bass).

Vinyl 10" £7.49

10" on Carmel / Generator.

Sold out.

New EP here of soft and synthy indiepop from Sheffield's Blessa, recorded by Hookworm MJ at his Suburban Home studio. It's a dreamy pop concoction full of shuffly beats and understated soft synth lines buoyed by singer Olivia's nightingale-like warbling.   There's elements of Tennis's yacht pop, Real Estate's MOR wistfulness and Saint Etienne's deadpan hitmaking in their thoughtful, sleek and refined sound, but it never sounds overbaked. There's a purity and simplicity to the songs that's quite satisfying, but they can get a bit Dawsons Creekishly slick and sentimental at times. Tasteful, earnest indie soul business with a heart of pure pop.
