Some swinging goodness from Piero Umiliani. Da Roma A New York is the 1957 recording from the Italian composer. Taking stock from the likes of Count Basie and Duke Ellington, as well as the California cool jazz of the 50s, Piero evokes the swing era decades after its heyday and renews it with a west coast mood. His cinematic quality of composing led him to do the scores for all sorts of italian flicks, so if you're into 60s Italian cinema you might have nodded along to some of his tunes unknowingly.
