I've already reviewed one album by a Royal Truck this morning, the newie from Jennifer Herrema's Black Bananas, and now I have the other Truck, Hagerty, with his Howling Hex. I've already reviewed one album by a Royal Truck this morning, the newie from Jennifer Herrema's Black Bananas, and now I have the other Truck, Hagerty, with his Howling Hex. This 10" has really cool handmade artwork and it's more of a dirty lo-fi primitive rock style than the aforementioned Bananas' futurepop filth.   'Fool's Watch' is a weird bouncy countryish thing which starts out like the Meat Puppets but then descends into a no-wave squall with a brilliant clangy crunch of rhythm guitar propelling everything grubbily along before the country bounce returns for a lively ending. Likeable and grotty and weird, this is a cool track. Overleaf we've got 'Lord Gloves' which is a weird kind of country-surf-fuzz march that morphs into a nice crunchy almost Parquet Courts-ish bit of indie rock and then descends into swampy fuzz and slide guitar meanderings before a weird rhythmic no-wavey ending. Both songs here have a lot going on, really cool little EP.
