Jon Wesseltoft and Okkyung Lee team up on this limited 12" from Italy's mighty Holidays Records this week, which contains a side-long drone piece carved from hypnotic cello and harmonium, humming and scraping in a trance-like unison for the best part of 20 minutes.   It's fair to say this isn't for everyone...if scrapey strings and one-note tunes aren't your bag then look elsewhere, but if you're into the mystical physicality of the likes of the Rain Drinkers then you may well be seduced by its wheezily interminable tones. If you don't like string drones you'll struggle here but I'm finding it quite therapeutic. While the cello does disappear down some squeakily resonant alleyways during the first half of the piece, it doesn't stray far from the basic formula of meditatively droning strings aiming for a single enmeshed tone, eventually achieving just that during the closing stages after spending the first half skirting around it.
