- Peaks by P.J. Philipson
I’m quite new to the Little Crackd Rabbit label but I’m becoming more and more attracted to it as I hear each new release, with the sounds of A.R.C Soundtracks ‘Archive: Volume One’ still ringing in my ears I’m now treated to this little gem. P.J. Philipson is a Manchester based guitarist and producer and this is his stunning debut album for this cheeky little label, ‘Peaks’ is plain and simply just one man and his guitar (and some nifty effects pedals too) to create soundscapes based around certain places in the Derbyshire Peak District.
His guitar pours out massive amounts of delay and reverb to give the listener a sense of space and open air but also of emotion, these cathedral-esque drones have so much depth that you just get lost in the darkness, falling deeper and deeper uncontrollably into some kind of guitar based black hole, Philipson has clearly been influenced by great soundsmiths such as Vini Reilly, Robin Guthrie and Robert Fripp but still has a style all of his own, this is a great addition to an ever growing roster of talent to the LCR label.
