Luke Haines' indie pop outfit the Auteurs released their second record, 'Now I'm A Cowboy', in 1994, and made it big off the back of their sizeable hit "Lenny Valentino". That tune puts this stellar record on the map, and now the whole thing has been affectionately repackaged by 3 Loop Music, who sought out Haines curation skills to bring about a whole lot of b-sides and BBC Sessions cuts.

- Now I'm A Cowboy by The Auteurs
8/10 Jon T Customer review, 7th March 2017
This LP - the second in the Auteurs' catalogue - retrospectively stands as an oddity in the oeuvre of frontman/songwriter Luke Haines.
Which isn't to say it's a bad record: it's fantastic! - and Haines' most commercially successful work - but rather that in the context of the experimentation to follow this record is sonically straightforward: a collection of 11 classic Auteurs songs, produced by Phil Vinall.
What do I mean by classic?
* Haines' guitars and singing underpin verse-chorus-verse songs
* James Banbury's cello woven as an instrument rather than a cheap production trick into each song
* A continuation of the Americana-esque lyrical preoccupations of the first LP (New Wave)
The vinyl repressing is nicely achieved, and the additional CD content fascinating for any Luke Haines devotee.
