Similar to, but not as esoteric as Fuck Buttons, Eaux pursue a similar undulating live-tronica feel with walls of synths and beats being layered up on top of each other and makes you start to want to dance....or smash down the Berlin wall or something.

One difference between the two bands being Eaux’s use of gleaming female vocals, picking out words like threads from a sweater as the music builds in intensity. Unafraid of suddenly lurching into a Tangerine Dream freakout when the mood takes them, the band are best when letting the music slowly build under the vocals rather than forcing the issue. All manner of female fronted ice-tronica projects from Zola Jesus to Austra to Adult come to mind but Eaux veer heavier upon techno music using monolithic churning synths as a bedrock.

Dark and moody, like the Shield Patterns the record is almost unrelentingly bleak. and is a slow burner you are going to need to give it time, its sense of euro-bleakness possibly weighs it down a little too much and it falls a little short of the promise of the opening tracks. Worth a listen though.
