Its Clint’s tape corner time. Just 1 tape today and on the sleeve there is a horse with some kind of floral display on its head. The music immediately takes me to the experimental end of early 80’s 4AD, a singular organ drone underpins some rather lovely but gothy vocals, I’m thinking This Mortal Coil, I’m thinking Dead Can Dance and I’m thinking of backcombing my hair in tribute.

I’m also thinking of more recent things like Christana Carter’s magnificently dark ‘Texas Blues Working’. As the wordless voice repeats, a guitar comes into play along with some other rather dramatic vocals entwining themselves with the wordless ones. Its all very intense and windswept. I’ve (finally) managed to forward the tape to another song and it uses the same dynamics  - an organ plays quietly, then guitar joins in with a few notes and the vocal is keening and full of expression.

More comparisons? Well an obvious one but Kate Bush circa ‘Sensual World’, Zola Jesus and an obscure one for you, Hugo Largo. Very impressive stuff.
