Okay, this is a complicated one to describe. You’re probably best off looking at the press release for a comprehensive rundown of the processes involved in the creation of Slipping Control’ but I’ll try and interpret what I’m hearing best I can.
So ‘Slipping Control’ is a record formulated and derived from a piece of text entitled "Tztztztzt Î Í Í…." published earlier in the year by Shelter Press. This text forms the basis of the compositions as well as guiding the video productions that accompanied the original exhibition. The process basically involves reconfiguring and processing vocals (performed by Tyondai Braxton and Sara Magenheimer) via this text formula.
The results are otherworldly but surprisingly listenable and, thankfully, don’t rely too heavily on understanding the process that went into creating them. As you can imagine it’s full of strange, almost unimaginable sounds and again, describing it isn’t easy so you’re probably best off having a listen and a read. Proper exhibition music.
