Used to hate them but hate them less these days. The opposite to the normal trajectory. They seem to be purveying soulful, smoky atmospheric pop rather than balls out blues on this album and its all the sweeter for it. Nice production touches, 'Fever' does what MGMT used to do before they went mental. Clever lads.

First of all I am a fan of the Black Keys and have been for some time now. In my honest opinion I think they wandered too far from the reservation on this one. I understand the evolution of all bands is inevitable, however, this is the first Black Keys album I find hard to recommend. The songs are flat and missing the raw cutting and jiving of Dan's guitar. What I loved about the Black Keys originally was the pure rock that came from a 2-piece band, they had to play loud and solid because they could not hide behind any other instruments.
