Atomnation brings us this debut full length from Dutch electronic producer David Douglas, what I’m treated to on this sunny Thursday morning is a blissful but beat heavy mix of chilled house and downtempo ambience that’s also full of little pop hooks, it’s no wonder then that other records by Douglas like 2012’s ‘Royal Horticultural Society’ EP and the ‘Higher’ single have been gaining attention by the likes of Pitchfork among others.

‘Moon Observations’ is a funk laden mature sound of electronica with it’s influence coming from artists such as Tycho, Bonobo and Burial but with a little hint of classical in brief moments. There’s a couple of collaborations here, firstly from Danish folk artist Petter Carlsen on ‘Sweet Moonflower’ with it’s glitchy piano samples and then ‘White Heat Blood’ features a soulful vocal by Dutch pop singer Blaudzun.

This is a well produced, deep and soulful sound of electronica that’s not too heavy going and really easy to listen too.
