Got a lovely EP of Neil Young-ish Americana-rock business this week from those fabulous people at Italian Beach Babes. There are four song on here, all fairly long and slow, with lovely countryish vocal harmonies and lazily strummed guitars. I think they're from London so the twangy vocal affectations are in places a bit questionable but the songs themselves are very pretty, part Grateful Dead, part International Tussler Society, part Cairo Gang. It is for the most part very tasteful and they make a soothing sound.   Despite the ten-strong band of people pictured on the back of the sleeve these are in essence quite uncomplicated country songs, delivered slow and pretty and earnest. The pacing is a bit Low-ish sometimes but the arrangements are bigger and the vocals more country. The most interesting track by far is closer 'Panic Attack Blues' which has some weird unison guitar and vocal wiggling and scrappy jamming that is really effective and unusual and makes the rest of the EP seem somewhat pedestrian in comparison. Promising stuff, but they're definitely at their best when things sound a bit wrong.
