7/10 Ian Staff review, 08 May 2014
Dusseldorf based post-rock pioneers Kreidler are now in their twentieth year on planet music, along with bands like Tortoise and Do Make Say Think melding the sounds of Krautrock, prog rock and electronica to create a whole new genre, Many copyists have followed since then but originators like this are still the ones to return to time and time again. Released on the Bureau B label ‘ABC’ is split into six pieces of pulsing synths, organic drums and guitar and all manner of electronic analogue sounds, where previous albums by these guys have had a more minimal synthetic sound this latest effort seems a little more down to earth and human in a strange sort of way.
The six tracks here have a freeform approach as if jammed out by the band and then structured out in post production. Chunky funk laden beats and proggy synth bleeps and bloops are fleshed out with occasional voices, static noises and artificial percussion sounds, the end product is a super slick almost danceable vibe with a playful twist.
