8/10 Ian Staff review, 22 May 2014
Here we have a great collection of Factory classics, the profits of which are going to a good cause to help Michael Shamberg, Michael helped run the New York Factory office in the eighties and has been sadly struck down with Mitochondrial disease. This album features 13 tracks from the more dance oriented period of the Factory legacy, with the super funk punk of ‘Du The Du’ by A Certain Ratio and the disco romping ‘Cool As Ice’ by 52nd Street you know you’re on to a winner here.
After New Order visited the US in the late eighties they were clearly influenced by the growing dance scene that was going on there, this really shows in a lot of tracks here with the Bernard Sumner produced ‘Love Tempo’ from Quando Quango and Marcel King’s ‘Reach For Love’ as well as a live version of their own ‘Your Silent Face’. This is what paved the way for the Hacienda to become a vital part of the whole house music scene and dance culture in general in this country, going on to spawn a thousand warehouse raves and site parties in muddy fields.
