Back in 1990, I was a gangly Datsun Cherry driving, golf loving stick insect. It was around this time that I discovered Yo La Tengo and purchased this beautiful album from the proceeds of my job at the local petrol station (now bulldozered). Not only is it a great album but an education too. Through it I delved into the worlds of Gene Clark, Daniel Johnston, The Kinks, John Cale and many of the other cult artists Yo La Tengo cover acoustically on this evocative drift of an album. Gentle re-works of some of their early tracks put the icing on the cake. Utterly essential.
