I was listening to this yesterday whilst ‘working’ from home and lo and behold this morning it was the first song that drifted into my brain when I scraped myself out of bed.
Its a nice folky cover of Silver Apples ever-marvellous ‘I Have Known Love’. They strum it on acoustic guitar, adding some plinky plonk xylophone and violin along the way. Quite lovely. These lot were 70’s Irish acid folksters who are back, back BACK in the game. They do three of their own songs too, ‘You In Yellow’ is a lovely fingerpicked folky thing, kind of sea-shanty-like with some beautiful rolling chords. Oh! This is good, good, good. Overleaf, ‘The Angelus’ begins with the distant peal of church bells before drifting in a delicious strummy piece of English folk.
Top songwritery with some really unusual, slightly mysterious chord changes. The final ‘I Pick Up Birds at Funerals’ (yeah coz they are all upset ‘n’ shit and need some ‘comforting’) is a fuzzier dronier thing. All good with plenty of neat touches, listen if you like early 70’s folk revivalists/Canterbury scene/James Yorkston/Alasdair Roberts etc.
