8/10 Clinton Staff review, 15 May 2014
Listened to this earlier and thoroughly enjoyed it. Not hindered at all by it being accompanied by a luscious bowl of fruit and fibre.
Equally lush is the music on offer which is high quality, line caught smoky beaut-tronica, the sort of stuff that fills the room with delicious sound. The obvious comparison to spring to mind is Bonobo, it has that kind of lushly cinematic quality using strings and horns to give an organic feel to the music which also uses dancefloor moves beneath to propel it forward. My favourite track is ‘Hyperion’ which builds up with some nice overlapping horns before a big descending bass kicks in along with the handclap like beats and wibbly synths. Almost heading towards Boards of Canada territory, this will appeal to fans of Cinematic Orchestra, (early) Fourtet and Blue States.
A word on the packaging, double 180 gram vinyl including a CD copy in its own little case for £18 quid. Quality.
