8/10 Clinton Staff review, 24 April 2014
Really been enjoying this 12” by Madder Modes. It delves full on into deep house territory with some low end bass rumbles and clattery percussion. Crucially this is married with some eerie synth style noises and dub inflected percussion rattles resulting in a beautifully soulful track, probably more at home in your minimal loft apartment rather than out on the dancefloor. Half way through it switches to a crackly analogue flavour exemplifying the slight Boards of Canada stylings that were only just in evidence on the first section.
Overleaf there's some gloriously shimmering house with nods towards DJ Sprinkles tight productions especially in the repeated and almost out of place voice samples. Later on there’s some nice swirling vocal overlapping itself joined by a particularly melancholic piano motif.
It really is a very good record jam packed with late night twinkly house. You should check it out.
