Strange things were afoot in the upper Midwest around the late '70s. Here's the week's most baffling reissue, an album of wild and wacky concrete tape manipulation by Orchid Spangiafora from 1979, which found an unlikely home on legendary Minneapolis label Twin-Tone, better known for releases from the likes of the Replacements and Soul Asylum. It's slightly maddening and often quite funny, little snippets of speech repeated over and over, twittering speed shifts and cryptic backwards masking.   It kind of sounds like a robot which has been designed to absorb and store modern culture but has gone haywire and is just spewing out advertising slogans and cookery shows and religious broadcasts. If you're not into leftfield experimental stuff it'll leave you utterly confused but if you like pushing the boundaries of your own mental health then these garbled Nurse With Woundisms will have you foaming at the mouth.
