Wild dark red/pinky vinyl, looks good enough to eat, but that would hurt, wouldn't it? This 7" is a taster from a forthcoming LP of Stooges songs that Mr. Williamson and the boys (both old and recent line-ups are incorporated) never "properly got round to recording" back in t'day. (Although a surfeit of bootlegs and er, dodgy semi-legit releases would testify other wise). The novelty is that Mr. Pop himself is absent, no doubt snuggled up in his slippers, tank top and cradling his BBC6 DJ mug of chocolate, broadcasting tip-top tunes from his Florida lair of Ig-tasticness. The album will boast a string of guest vocalists but this single features Carolyn Wonderland on singing chores and a very creditable job she does on interpreting her own unique take on the original Iggy versions. The A side is a less rushed version of the widely available original and in some ways is arguably better for it. Carolyn Wonderland's vocals add a new vulnerability to the piece, a vulnerability that you never know if something more sinister and unworldly is about to erupt at any moment. The B side is a gonzoid rip through of "Gimme Some Skin" which is belted out with such spiteful alacrity that at any moment the PC police are going to politely rap on the door and ask to peruse the not-quite right on lyrics and also ask the reprobates to turn the noise down. The cover is suitably macabre to. Go on try and track a copy down - you know you want to!
