Here's my second Famous Class split for the day. I just tackled Mikal Cronin/Wand, now it's Fuzz/CCR Headcleaner's turn. The Wand song from the previous 7" actually sounded quite a lot like Fuzz so the transition is quite clean. Ty Segall's '70s rock crew barrel their way through a high octane cover of the Kinks' 'Till the End of the Day' with a snotty nervous energy and lots of crunchy trebly hi-gain guitar, just how you like them. It's a solid cover, hard and abrupt but still recognisable.
Finally it's CCR Headcleaner's turn. Who are CCR Headcleaner? 'Free the Freaks' is nasty shambling distorto-pop like a red-eyed and stumbling Times New Viking; gross-out walls of noise with a louche just-about-holding-together pop aesthetic. There's a pop song in there somewhere though, no doubt about it, and the relentless discordant crumbling churn'n'drone accompaniment has become strangely uplifting by the end of the track. A strangely effective track for those who like their pop music intentionally jarring and weird.
