Unity by Larry Young

A freshly remastered vinyl version of legendary jazz organist Larry Young’s 1966 sophomore date for Blue Note, released to mark the label’s 75th anniversary. This session featured Woody Shaw (trumpet), Joe Henderson (tenor sax) and Elvin Jones (drums), who ably facilitated Young’s modal expansions. Young would go on to distinguish himself as one of the fieriest contributors to the burgeoning sound of jazz fusion with later albums on Blue Note and, more famously, with Miles Davis (on ‘Bitches Brew’) and Tony Williams (in Lifetime). Unity is almost as well known for its iconic Reid Miles cover design as for the pioneering music within.
