Minimum Rock N Roll by Chain & the Gang

7/10 Ian 10 April 2014

Former Nation Of Ulysses and The Make-Up man Ian Svenonius returns with his fourth album and their first for the ever growing Fortuna Pop label, Ian has been touting his intelligent brand of spikey garage/post-punk/new wave sounds since the early nineties in various guises. The last few years with Chain And The Gang has seen him enter into a more neat fitting pop vibe with influences ranging from motown, gospel, 60’s beat combo’s and blues.

‘Minimum Rock n Roll’ is a jolt of uber cool pulp fiction style punk rock that conjures up images of leather clad gangsters in Ray Bans, with song titles like ‘Crime Don’t Pay’ and ‘What Are You In Here For?’ it seems that being on the wrong side of law is the theme here, with even the dual male female vocals giving it the whole Bonnie and Clyde feel. Mixed by Fugazi’s Brendan Canty ‘Minimum Rock n Roll’ is a raw but smooth album of sharp dressed punk rock with a youthful outlook.
