The office post-it imp has been at it again, this time emblazoning the front of the new Dillon album with a sticker saying "Really good Klima/Bjork electronic/female". I have to say his pithy six-word summary is reasonably accurate. This is an album of slinky and understated electronic pop from the The xx/Imogen Heap school of nocturnal delights with a slightly twisted experimental undercurrent that invites comparisons to the likes of Bjork or Grimes.
I'm having a good time with it, her voice is soulful and expressive and audaciously high in the mix, while glacial pianos, droning and fluttering synths and almost nonexistent rhythms cleverly snake and twitch in negative space. The quiet, introspective feeling that I get from the music really makes the vocals seem more intimate and thankfully the delivery has enough warmth and personality to keep the record reasonably buoyant despite its slow and nocturnal atmospheres. Really pleasant stuff.
