Edward "DMX Krew" Upton is back this week with this astonishingly limited LP. Only 180 copies, I can barely believe it. It comes on smoky vinyl in a screenprinted sleeve. I've had a few experiences in the past where smoky vinyl has had a fair amount of surface noise but this one sounds excellent.

This LP is a little more downbeat than I was expecting, not the chirpy acid fun you're probably used to from Mr Krew but a series of thoughtful soundscapes with a weather-beaten coldness to them. 'Glantane' has beatless cascades of sad descending twinkles before 'Lady of the Lake' opens side B with some desolate windy whooshes and watery blips, while other tracks employ simple drum machine beats and deft modular loops to carry their sad, sparse and wibbly melodies.

He saves the best for last, with closer 'Beltane' finding a fine balance between punchy uplift and thoughtful pathos, it really could make you dance or cry depending on your mood. The whole collection is superb though, some real introspective synth mastery.
