8/10 Mike Staff review, 11 April 2014

The duo formerly known as Young Hunting have a new EP here, with four originals on one side at 33 and a Regis remix at 45 on the other. I'm listening to the originals first and they open with a couple of detailed bits of cosmic synth ambience with shades of oblique darkness to them, gliding futuristic textures that often make me think of Kosmonaut and DROKK, but with a ghost-like stillness and subtlety that rewards deep listening and commands a kind of church-like reverence. Not an awful lot happens, but it happens beautifully and mysteriously.

On the third track a harsh, metallic beat jumps to the fore. It's somewhat jarring after the subtleties of the other tracks. There's still some gentle dronework going on in the background but now it sounds like Stomp are clanging some spanners against some metal pipes over the top. Distracting. They're back in their droney sound design comfort zone again by the final track on side A though. Remix's regis on the other side is pretty darkside too; a slowly drifting tapestry of dread-drones, ghostly voices and disembodied saxy parts. Surrender to the velvety blackness.
