Barn Owl gentleman Jon Porras has another album out this week. He seems to have been quite busy lately. ‘Light Divide’ is a foggy collection of drone-based ambience full of gliding and hissing and weird buried voices and backwards-twitching modular melodies all mixed together in a swampy soup topped with his own special sonic mist. You know how much you love his sonic mist.
Once you settle into his indistinct and ghostly soundworld, though, it’s quite an engrossingly busy trip that he’s taking you on, weird shuffling sounds like reverbed whispers, distant, indistinct cosmic twinkles, monolithic throbbing drones and glassy spectral moans. There are instruments like guitar in here somewhere but they’re all blurred and blended until everything’s just one heavy ghostly sigh. Great late night tectonic drift, you probably know if you like this guy’s drones or not by now.
