- Resin EP by MGUN

Detroit’s Manuel Gonzales aka MGUN scores a hat trick with his third 12” release for Don’t Be Afraid in the form of the diverse 6 track ‘Resin EP’.
'Assumptions' gets things moving with some squeaky, rugged and raw straight to tape tough electro which sounds like a lo-fi DJ Stingray with uptempo but subdued beats underneath some lovely dreamy synth arpeggios. ‘Funkshun’ is moody electro sounding like The Hauge’s interpretation of Detroit electro, recalling, Legowelt, I-F and DJ Overdose. The title of ‘Migrane’ is a dead giveaway; a high-octane floor shredding analogue electro jam that’s totally berserk and feels really fresh and absolutely exploding with energy.
‘Flutter‘ is the strangest tune with its fast metronomic pulse and and soulful synth melody but sounds grimey as hell. ‘In The Road’ is a proper wonky techno jam sounding not unlike something that could have come out on Edinburgh’s sorely missed Sativae label back in the 90’s from Neil Landstrumm, Cristian Vogel or Tobias Schmidt. ‘90 Sumtin’ draws the EP to its conclusion and displays the sheer range of Gonzales’ production skills with a slice of quirky experimental house that takes in clicky micro-house type beats and some oldskool bleeps. Apparently Manuel has been taken under the wing of Underground Resistance and it’s clear why. Great to see so much young talent in Detroit with this guy, Jay Daniel, Kyle Hall etc. Exellent raw EP.
