- Soil Steps by Orla Wren

Orla Wren's latest offering is a single epic track of collaged-together field recordings "gathered during long distane walking and camping trips throughout Spain and Portugal between 2010 and 2012", along with subtle musical touches like droney synths, tinkling music box, and plaintively twinkling electric guitar, while broken electronics sometimes twitch and flutter into life before giving up and powering down again.
The focus here is more on the field recordings than the melodic aspects, however, with scattered footsteps and snatches of conversation, birdsong and chirping, buzzing insects, and various hard to place clacks and squeaks. Sometimes it gets uncomfortably high-pitched which is quite distracting and awkward, interrupting an otherwise relaxing sonic journey (and with it being a single track you can't even easily skip those parts). In essence it's a slowly morphing collection of interesting sounds, some easier to listen to than others.
