Cheval Sombre, or "Serious Horse" as they call him in France, has a new 7" out and we've managed to score a few copies of the super-rare black vinyl edition! On the A side there's a new song called 'It's Not Time' which is a slight and heartbroken number performed in intimate near-silence. There's a plaintively picked guitar, an even sadder banjo (I think it's a banjo anyway) and almost whispered vocals in which Mr Sombre sounds like he's about to burst into tears. Real sad, even by this Cheval's standards.

On the other side there's an eight-year-old demo for the song 'It's A Shame' from his first album. This again is hushed and sad acoustica, but with a touch of swirling raga-ish psychedelia about it, giving it a heady and mystical feel compared to the brittle heartache of the A side. Both songs are slight and pretty bits of mopey slowcore with a touch of psychedelia. Very nice, if a little insubstantial.
