Here’s a debut album from Copenhagen’s Shiny Darkly on Crunchy Frog, and it’s pretty entertaining. It’s a chunky darkpop mixture of spiky post-punk guitars and shoegazey synth drones and reverb abuse. It’s reminding me of Savages’ kind of epic-Joy-Division aesthetic mixed with some of the grimy, gothy rock of bands on Sacred Bones like Pop. 1280 or Cult of Youth ...

It’s sweeping, moody stuff. I can imagine listening to it on a long car journey late at night, with its soothing but kinetic mixture of glacial drones and guitar-drenched theatrics; in ‘Sacred Floor’ they start out in almost Zola Jesus-ish synthpop territory but the droney synths are eventually engulfed entirely by a crashing shoegazey wall of mangled guitar distortion.

The singer kind of sounds like Robert Smith doing an Ian Curtis impression in a big echoey cave. Pretty solid gothy drama-pop basically.
