He’s alright Michael Kiwanuka innee? A throwback to the soulful lads of the ‘70’s like Terry Callier and the like. You could never guess that this was made in the age of internet.

He has a rich brown soulful voice and strums his acoustic guitar nicely. On the main track there’s lots of squiggly violin which you would think might not fit in with those sunshiney 70’s vibes but it provides a nice earworm. Jack White produces and does a nice organic job. On the flip there’s  a stripped back take on underrated troubadour Townes Van Zandt’s ‘Waiting Round to Die’, liking the drums on this  - they give the track a nice edge.

Its all lovingly done and Kiwanuka is talented enough to pull off a track like this with seemingly little effort.
