- Music From the Film 'Hey Badfinger' by Roy Montgomery

Here's an album of solo guitar from Roy Montgomery. It's called 'Music From The Film Hey Badfinger' but I have my doubts as to whether 'Hey Badfinger' is even a real film and not just a fictional one. It's real nice anyway, with a mammoth 23 tracks of the New Zealander's chime'n'drone electric guitar picking. It sounds like he's playing a 12-string but I'm not sure if that's just a weird chorus-type effect on his guitar.
The pieces are brief but quite personable and melodic, Montgomery deftly picking out simple melodies and slowly ringing chords with an enthusiastic attack which gives the fairly peaceful tunes a crunching physicality which is well paired with plenty of open chords and ringing sustain which underpins his melodic phrases with lo-fi drones, slightly phased, full of treble and crackle and analogue wibble.
It's a very trebly album and that's starting to tire me out by the end, but Montgomery's playing is delightfully nimble and communicative and he really does have quite a unique style. A really interesting take on guitar solo work.
